Home for the next 11.5 hours or so. 747 upper deck from Tokyo to Detroit. This is after 7 hours from Singapore to Tokyo. Most likely this will be my last big 747 ride as they retire in a year or so.

Interesting, I thought Delta had retired their international long-haul 747s for A330s. I used to fly between Detroit and Nagoya a lot for work, and they made the switch a few years back on that route.

The 747s are still pounding around. A few have retired, but not all.

When my parents moved to Asia, I would go 4-5 times/ year, always upper deck business class. Pre pod days, but still lay flat. I always loved it. Upper deck always felt like a private intimate space. The A380 just doesn’t feel the same, and single deck planes always make you conscious of how big the aircraft was.

Me too. I’ve only been on 777s for international flights.
